Absolute Batman Is About to Take Over New York Comic Con 2026

Absolute Batman is everywhere.
If you thought the Absolute Universe might start cooling off after its first couple of years, DC apparently has other ideas.
New York Comic Con 2026 opens Thursday, October 8, at the Javits Center, and after looking through DC's newly announced plans for the convention, one thing jumps out immediately:
Not just on a panel. Not just in a signing.
There are convention-exclusive comics, creator appearances, hardcover editions, merchandise, an entire Absolute Universe panel and even an Absolute Batman collectible bundle.
For a comic that launched only two years ago, that's a pretty remarkable amount of real estate at one of the biggest comic conventions in the country.
And there may be an even bigger reason to pay attention to what happens in New York next week.
The Absolute Universe Gets Its Own NYCC Panel
The biggest event for comic readers may happen Friday morning.
DC's Absolute Universe Panel is scheduled for Friday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. DC says the panel will feature creators behind the line along with news, reveals and announcements about what's coming next. DC
That's worth watching closely.
The Absolute Universe isn't one book anymore. What started with Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman has grown into a legitimate publishing line, and NYCC gives DC a huge stage to tell readers where it goes next.
For Absolute Batman readers specifically, the timing couldn't be much better.
Absolute Batman #25 arrives later in October, and writer Scott Snyder has already described the oversized milestone as both an ending and a beginning for the series. The issue brings Batman and the Absolute Joker into a major confrontation while setting up what comes next. Bleeding Cool News
Put a major Absolute Universe panel a few weeks before #25 and, yeah, we're paying attention.
Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta Will Be There
DC is also putting the creators themselves front and center.
Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta and colorist Frank Martin are scheduled for an Absolute Batman signing Thursday at 4 p.m. at the DC booth.
Then Friday brings multiple Absolute Universe signings. Snyder, Dragotta, Martin, Che Grayson and Frank Tieri are scheduled together at 2 p.m., followed at 3 p.m. by another huge Absolute lineup featuring Hayden Sherman, Jason Aaron, Juan Ferreyra, Al Ewing, Belén Ortega, Nick Robles, Pornsak Pichetshote and Rafael Albuquerque. DC
That's not the schedule of a publisher treating Absolute as a side project.
DC is making the line one of the centerpieces of its convention.
The NYCC Absolute Batman Exclusives Are Going to Get Attention
And then we get to the books.
DC will sell limited-printing convention editions of Absolute Batman #1, Absolute Wonder Woman #1 and Absolute Superman #1 featuring new artwork by Bill Sienkiewicz.
They're foil.
They're convention exclusives.
And they're revisiting the first issues of three books that have become some of DC's most recognizable modern titles.
You can probably guess what's going to happen when the doors open.
DC hasn't publicly guaranteed how long they'll last, only that they'll be available while supplies last. DC
There's a larger question here, though.
How many versions of Absolute Batman #1 can the market support?
It's a fair question. We've now reached the point where successful modern comics can accumulate a huge number of retailer, convention, foil, reprint and special-edition covers.
Personally, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
The trick is buying the ones you actually want.
A Bill Sienkiewicz Absolute Batman cover is a pretty easy concept to understand. He's an artist with an unmistakable style being turned loose on a character whose visual design already leans into exaggeration and brutality.
That's a combination worth seeing.
Mark Spears Is Getting an Absolute Universe Set Too
Here's another NYCC item that could fly slightly under the radar.
DC is producing exclusive hardcover editions of Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo, Absolute Superman Vol. 1: The Last Dust of Krypton and Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon with connecting Mark Spears artwork across the three dust jackets. DC
That's smart.
Connecting covers have always worked particularly well when there's an actual reason to own the entire set, and using the three original pillars of the Absolute Universe makes this one feel intentional instead of gimmicky.
Spears himself is also scheduled for a DC booth signing Friday morning at 10.
If you're going to NYCC and collect the Absolute hardcovers, this is one I'd put on the list.
There Is Even an Absolute Batman Collectible Bundle
DC is also teaming with Shoe Palace and Upper Deck on two convention collectible sets—one for Absolute Batman and another for Absolute Wonder Woman.
The Absolute Batman set includes a limited-edition comic, a 5x7 Upper Deck card, T-shirt and collectible pins featuring artwork by Nick Dragotta. The Wonder Woman version uses Hayden Sherman artwork. DC
That's another sign of where the Absolute line sits right now.
This has moved well beyond variant covers.
DC is turning these versions of the characters into brands of their own.
And Then Comes Absolute Batman #25
This is the part we're watching particularly closely at ATL Comics & Cards.
Absolute Batman #25 is currently scheduled for October 28, just a few weeks after NYCC. Popverse
It's an oversized milestone issue, it pushes the Absolute Joker story forward, and there is already an enormous cover program surrounding it.
ATL Comics & Cards also has our own retailer-exclusive #25 cover from Mark Texeira—his first-ever Absolute Batman cover—available in Trade Dress and Virgin Foil editions.
And yes, we're biased on this one.
But that's also why we're watching NYCC so closely.
The convention falls right in the middle of the buildup to #25. If Snyder, Dragotta or DC reveal something significant about the next phase of Absolute Batman during the Absolute Universe panel, interest in #25 could get even louder heading into release day.
What Should Absolute Batman Readers Watch at NYCC?
If you're following the series but aren't going to New York, don't worry about trying to keep up with every announcement coming out of the Javits Center.
Watch three things.
First, pay attention to Friday's Absolute Universe Panel. That's the obvious place for major publishing news.
Second, watch for anything Scott Snyder or Nick Dragotta says about the post-#25 direction of the series.
And third, keep an eye on the exclusives.
Not because every NYCC foil is automatically going to become valuable—it won't—but because convention books often give us some of the most interesting artwork of the year.
The bigger story, though, is what DC's NYCC schedule tells us about Absolute Batman itself.
Two years after launch, DC isn't treating this like the hot new book anymore.
They're treating it like one of the pillars of the company.
And with Absolute Batman #25 arriving just weeks after New York Comic Con, October could end up being one of the most important months the series has had yet.
We'll know a lot more after next Friday.
